4th Annual Ringette Rumble Tournament
Rules
Ringette Rumble Tournament Rules
The Ringette Rumble Tournament committee expects all players, coaches, and spectators to demonstrate good sportsmanship and respectful behavior throughout the event. While the tournament follows the official Ringette Canada rules and casebook, the following specific regulations will apply for this competition:
Team Registration & Pre-Game Requirements
-
Team managers must check in and verify game sheets at the welcome desk at least forty-five (45) minutes before their scheduled game.
-
If the referee or Tournament Committee determines that the competing teams’ jerseys are too similar in colour or contrast, the visiting team will be required to change to an alternate set. If no alternate set is available, the Tournament Committee will determine an appropriate solution.
-
If a team is unable to field at least seven (7) skaters and a goaltender by five (5) minutes past the scheduled start time, the referee will declare a forfeit unless approved otherwise by the Tournament Committee.
-
Teams are required to be ready to take the ice at least ten (10) minutes before their scheduled start time. If the ice is ready, the game will begin immediately. Any team not ready to play within five (5) minutes, will forfeit the game, and the score will be recorded as 7–0.
-
Each team will be permitted a maximum two (2) minute on-ice warm-up period immediately before the start of the game, subject to arena scheduling and the direction of the referees or Tournament Committee.
-
For U12 & up, the home team is responsible for providing a shot clock operator during round-robin play. The tournament will supply shot clock operators for the final games. The tournament organizers will provide game sheet and game clock operators.
Players' Eligibility & Rosters
All eligible players must be listed on the game sheet for their team’s first game of the tournament, and each player must have a unique jersey number.
Teams must submit their final official roster in Ringette Rumble Stats before the start of their first game. Once submitted, no additional players may be added.
Exceptions may be approved by tournament organizers for injured, sick, or unavailable players or goalies, or if a team drops below ten (10) available skaters.
Players may only play for one team within the same age division during the tournament weekend. Players may be called up to a higher age division if necessary, provided the tournament organizers are notified in advance.
Any player found playing for more than one team in the same age division will be disqualified, and the games in which they participated will be forfeited.
In the event of goalie illness, injury, or unavailability, a goalie may be called up from a lower division or called across from another team, with prior approval from tournament organizers.
Game Play Regulations
-
Games will consist of two (2) 15-minute stop-time periods.
-
Any player or bench staff receiving a Match Penalty or two (2) misconduct penalties will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament, pending review by the Tournament Committee.
-
In all games, if a seven (7) goal differential is reached, the clock will switch to straight (running) time at the start of the second period. Running time will continue until the goal differential is reduced to fewer than seven (7) goals. All penalties assessed during running time will be served as two (2) minutes straight time. Running time may also be applied to maintain the tournament schedule at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.
-
If a goaltender is injured and unable to continue, at the referee’s discretion, a five (5) minute delay may be granted to allow substitution or equipment adjustment.
-
The tournament committee reserves the right to adjust game lengths if necessary to maintain the event schedule.
Standings & Tiebreakers
-
Two (2) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) point will be awarded for a tie, and no (0) points for a loss during round robin games.
-
A maximum spread of seven (7) goals per game will be used in displaying and determining the standings.
-
In all standings and tie-breaking calculations, forfeited games will be recorded as a 7–0 result. Goals for, goals against, and penalty minutes from forfeited games will be applied accordingly for the purpose of ranking teams.
-
In the event of two or more teams being tied after round robin play, the following method will determine which team advances:
-
The winner of the games between the tied teams (if 3 or more teams are tied and have not all played each other, go to B.)
-
The team with the highest difference in goals for vs goals against (+/-)
-
The team with the least goals against
-
The team with the most goals scored.
-
The team with the least penalty minutes in their 3 round robin games
-
A flip of a coin
-
When one team advances, the tie-breaking method restarts at A for the remaining teams.
Finals Format
For the U10 & U12 Divisions
-
Following the round robin, the top four (4) teams in the standings will advance to the Finals.
For the U14 Divisions:
-
Following the round robin, all teams will advance to the Finals.
-
The 1st place team will play the 2nd place team for the Gold and Silver medals, while the 3rd place team will play the 4th place team for the Bronze medal.
-
All Finals games will consist of two (2) 15-minute stop-time periods.
-
Coaches must select three (3) players for potential use in a tiebreaking shootout and specify their shooting order on the game sheet prior to the start of the game.
-
In the event of a tie at the end of regulation, one (1) 5-minute sudden-death overtime period will be played to determine a winner.
-
If the game remains tied at the end of overtime, the previously selected players will participate in a shootout.
-
If the game is still tied at the conclusion of the shootout, a sudden-death shootout will be used to determine the winner. Coaches may select any players who have not yet participated in the initial shootout.
-
A coin toss will determine first possession during overtime and which team will have possession for the shootout.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Team officials are responsible for the conduct of themselves, their players, and their spectators throughout the tournament. Any aggressive, abusive, or unsportsmanlike behavior by players, coaches, team officials, or parents may result in immediate team suspension for the remainder of the tournament and could impact participation in future events.
The Ringette Rumble committee maintains the final authority on all rules, interpretations, and decisions, and reserves the right to adjust or amend rules as necessary to protect the safety, fairness, and integrity of the tournament.
